About

While referring to the world Una Kim creates her own pictorial space filled with paradise colors. These colors unfold a land of freedom with imaginative creatures and uninhibited nudes. Her radiant images are marked with expressive brush marks and deliberate juxtapositions of strong primary and secondary colors, and frequently form complementary harmonies. Many of her recent paintings contain mythical creatures that express the distress of a woman living in a country where patriarchal values are still strictly enforced. There are stark images of pain and suffering in these works, but her paintings redeem her from the suffocating world. The viewer responds to her powerful images and cannot help but rejoice in her creations despite their tragic overtones.
